To change in appearance or character
Not until I came to the end of my own resources and was totally desperate, kneeling beside my hospital bed a day out of detox, did I become truly vulnerable and transparent before God. As I cried out to Him, hoping He was real, that He cared about me and if so, to please forgive all my wrongs, change me and give me a reason to live. Amazing, but that was in 1982 and He lifted alcohol out of my life but even more importantly, gave me a new identity in Him. What I’ve learned and continue to learn, is the One, True God of the Bible is not a respecter of persons but extends His grace, mercy and transforming love daily to any and all who will but take a small step of faith toward Him. Faith enough to be willing to follow and except the God of love who desires a relationship with us so much that He sent His perfect Son, Jesus, to take the place of our sins and be the bridge that unites imperfect man with the Perfect God. You might already know His love, or you might be saying you don’t believe in the God of the Bible or “sin”, maybe even disliking that word? I did too until I was humbled enough to really look deep inside the hidden areas of my mind and life. I am not alone, every human being has them and they may not be as obvious as my old lifestyle, but Jesus even looks at the intent of our heart and motives and none of us can honestly say they are always pure. What about God’s standard of love in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 that states “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” This is God’s perfect standard and I certainly can’t live up to it perfectly, can you?
God in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are alive and well. They have put animals in our lives to lovingly draw us closer. If you have seen an abused animal flourish with new life when smothered in love, you know transformations happen. Or how about a reactive dog who once tried to bite other dogs and or people who was changed through love, obedience and behavior training to one that is full of joy and playing with the group of dogs during our fun social groups? I am thrilled to share that there are many pups this wonderful change has happened to. Then how could you (or me) doubt that God could transform our heart, mind and soul to be growing in faith and love as well? Miracles do happen and nothing is impossible with God.
Are you already on this wonderful, yet sometimes challenging journey, one of which God will never leave nor forsake you? Or maybe you identify more with the following story?
Recently I was chatting with a gal when out with a group of pups during our playtime, and because I care about her, I asked where she thinks she is going when her time is up here? Her reply, “Well I hope to go back into the Earth, become better and come back”. I asked her the same question I asked myself many years ago, “How can you take something that important by chance, and just flip around taking a little bit of that religion (man-made rules) and a little bit of that one, until you feel comfortable with where you THINK you are going?” If you don’t believe in absolutes, just drive against the traffic on a one way street. Or light a can of gasoline and sincerely hope nothing will happen? If you struggle with having faith in the personal God through His Son Jesus, do you believe electricity will work, that water will flow from your kitchen faucet when you turn it on? Everyone has faith in something, things that won’t matter one day. I encourage you to research the validity of the Bible, and research where you research. This world is full of 1/2 truths and even if you are sincere in believing a 1/2 truth, you (and me) are still 100 percent wrong. The Bible IS the infallible Word of God and you can come to know Him through it. If you are reading this and the Holy Spirit has not been able to penetrate your heart yet, you may want to do as the investigative journalist did when he set out to disprove his wife’s growing Christian faith. In the true story of his journey “A Case For Christ” Lee Strobel became a believer in Jesus.
But if you are being drawn closer to God, I encourage you to get alone, quiet and pray this prayer, or one of your choosing. Prayer is simply talking and learning to listen to God.
“God, please forgive me of all the wrongs in my life. Please forgive me for living a selfish life, even in serving others without a pure motive. Please bring me into Your family and give me Your purposes for living. Jesus, I don’t have much faith, but give me just enough to believe right now that You did for me what I could never do for myself – make a way for me to live Eternally forgiven and fulfilled, where there will be no more pain or tears in Heaven. Jesus, be my Lord and Savior and please lead me in Your will for my life, Amen
If you prayed that prayer and meant it to the best of your ability, I encourage you to ask God to direct you to a solid Bible believing church as well as other believers in Christ who will love you and support you. If you want to join us on Sunday mornings at 9, you will hear the Gospel (good news of Christ) clearly and lovingly taught at church or ask God and He will lead you. Please also get a good Bible translation that is easy to read like the “New International Version”. He reveals Himself through His Word and 1 John 1:1 is a great place to start.
Welcome to the family and please be in touch!
